Sixteen-year-old forward Kyle Glasgow has made headlines by earning a selection in Tony Docherty's very first Scotland Under-21 squad. Taking over from Scot Gemmill following a 13-year tenure, former Dundee manager Tony Docherty steps into the role with clear objectives. The young Scots face a demanding schedule in their final European Championship qualifiers, hosting Azerbaijan at Rugby Park on September 30 before traveling to face Bulgaria away on October 6. To secure a vital play-off spot, Docherty's squad must win both encounters and rely on the Czech Republic dropping points, with Portugal currently leading the group for automatic qualification in Albania and Serbia.
Docherty has highlighted the importance of player development, praising SPFL co-operation agreements that allow Premiership talents to gain valuable senior minutes on loan. Outlining his philosophy, the head coach remarked: "He's holding his own but more importantly, he's learning the game. Selection for squads is all based on performance and there's an example of a young player that's performing really well at that level and I think he needs rewarded for that."
