At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Morocco became the first African and the first Arab national team to reach a World Cup semi-final. Walid Regragui's side knocked out Spain on penalties and then beat Portugal 1-0 in the quarter-final.
The run was built on a compact defence and a squad that brought together players raised in Morocco and in the diaspora. It changed expectations for the Atlas Lions for years to come.
